Текст Richard Schröder — Big Shoes to Fill

The chapel was packed to the rafters
Noone could believe he was gone
They came from all over the country
To pay their respects to my Uncle John
As all of his friends told their stories
We were cracking up and crying a bit
I thought I knew all about him
Turns out I didn’t know the half of it

How many souls can one man touch?
How could anybody be loved that much?
I always wanted
To be just like him
I’m hoping someday I will
But those are some big shoes to fill

His wife and kids sang his praises
No better way to judge a man’s worth
When his partner spoke of the business
They built he said he was the salt of the earth
Then his battalion commander
Said he never met someone so brave
That Medal of Honor took on
New meaning when we heard how he got it from the soldier he saved

How many souls can one man touch?
How could anybody be loved that much?
I always wanted
To be just like him
I’m hoping someday I will
But those are some big shoes to fill

(Bridge) I sat there thinking about his life and mine
Couldn’t help but compare the two
And there’s no denying that he got it right
And I’ve got some work to do

How many souls can one man touch?
How could anybody be loved that much?
I always wanted
To be just like him
I’m hoping someday I will
But those are some big shoes to fill
Those are some big shoes to fill
