Текст Benji Merritt — Both Sides of the Road

I grew up Southern born & bred
With a Daddy who would take it
Right up side my head
If I ever forgot my manners
Or stepped outta line
He taught me how to work hard
And stay in my lane
And how to stand up for our last name
And that’s exactly the way I’m raising
Those kids of mine

My Momma always taught me right from wrong
She cooked dinner on the stove singing Gospel songs
We bowed our heads and we said grace
Every night before we ate
It was veggies from the garden that we grew last year
And bacon wrapped backstraps from Daddy’s deer
My Momma was strong and my Daddy was
To and that’s the way it’s supposed to be
I’ve heard people call me a simple man
I make a blue collar living with my two hands
But you know what, I don’t need the Government to give me a hand
I get by just fine
So you do you and I’ll do me
And every now and then we’ll agree to disagree
But go ahead and assume I got a gun on me
If you ever want to cross the line

That’s just me
And how I choose to live my life
We can disagree
And everything will be alright
We’re all free
So go ahead and speak your mind
Live and let live and don’t tread on me
And we’ll get along on both sides of the road

I go outta my way to shake every hand
Of every single veteran
Woman or man
Who ever wore the uniform and took a stand
So my family could be free
And that’s why I stand for the red, white & blue
And I really don’t care whether you do
But you might want to think a time of two
If you’re gonna burn that thing in front of me

I don’t watch the news to get my truth
I just spend a few minutes in the good book
And send a prayer to the man up stairs each night
While the TV telling me I gotta be woke
And having faith in God is a freakin’ joke
That’s ok, I’ll just live my neighbor
And y’all can worry about the rest

That’s just me
And how I choose to live my life
We can disagree
And everything will be alright
We’re all free (thank God)
So go ahead and speak your mind
Live and let live and don’t tread on me
And we’ll get along on both sides of the road

That you had to put it at the end of the song?
Well you have now!»
