Текст Dog Is Blue — Dead and Gone
Hit the alarm for the third time this morning.
Stumble out of bed and fix your hair.
The coffee is hot. The walk is cold and long,
But you’ll be numb by the time you get there.
And this is the niche you’ve carved
Full of paychecks and pleasantries,
But inside each eyelid are
Engraved reassuring lines that read:
When I’m dead and gone it won’t matter to me.
Every gust of wind on the lawn takes a couple wilted leaves from the tree.
Did you see your shadow when you poked your head out this morning?
Another decade tacked on while you were busy yawning.
And this is the niche you’ve carved.
Is it everything you hoped for?
Steady hours and weekends off
With some free range time outdoors.
But when I’m dead and gone I won’t need to find the words
To defend where I went wrong or the lessons I never learned.
Because it’s not about the colour of the grass
Or the coins inside my pocket,
But it nags and pulls and stretches thing
Until you forget how good you’ve got it.
In the evening when you return full of ideas of escape and grandeur
Settle in to bed leaking all that unspent piss and vinegar.
And this is the niche you’ve carved
Hidden under the covers
Until the alarm sounds the third time
And your obedience has recovered.
But when I’m dead and gone I won’t need to be reminded o
Of all the things I said I’d have done and what little it took to be divided.
And when I’m dead and gone nothing will stop me.
Those leaves still march along long after they’ve been pulled from the tree.
When I’m dead and gone…
